Baobob Blast a real "Blast"

For a week near the end of July, 2010 there were 50 youngsters and 30 volunteer helpers from Galion's three Lutheran Churches having fun and learning at Peace Lutheran Church.

A skit introducing the Bible story, Bible verse, word and animal for the day was presented each morning.

Day 1 - Zebra - "Faye" - Trust - (Let the Lord lead you and trust him to help. Psalm 37:5) - God's call to Abraham

Day 2 - Colobus Monkey - "Amy" - Love - (Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8) - Joseph and his brothers

Day 3 - Elephant - "Bud" - Follow - (I will study your teachings and follow your footsteps. Psalm 119:15) - Disciples following Jesus

Day 4 - Meerkat - "Sam" - Care - (Our Lord, you chose me to care for your people. Jeremiah 17:16) - Good Samaritan

Day 5 - Giraffe - "Jonathan" - Share - (Share your faith with others. Philemon 1:6) - Philip and the Ethiopian

Each day, the children rotated through several different stations which provided them with fun and exciting activities to reinforce the Bible verse/Bible story for the day-
-Serengeti Science
-Madagascar Music
-Grassland Games
-Savannah Storytelling
-Kalahari Crafts
-Snack

The day would end with everyone coming together for a closing. They received a newsletter for that day and their own little animal to take home as a reminder of what they learned.

First Lutheran's Dory Stirm served as very capable leader for First. She said  that she has heard a lot of good feedback about VBS this year!!                     "The volunteers all put a lot of time and energy into making it a fun-filled and successful week for the children!! I saw a lot of neat crafts and mementos being sent home with the children to reinforce what they were being taught" she said.

School supplies were collected to donate to CCSG and nearly $300 in offerings was collected. Half of the money was used to offset VBS expenses and the other half given to Teen Bi - a missionary project in Senegal.
